i'd really like your thoughts on wether this seems
realistic, and approachable. some helpful criticism would be nice.... i
don't usually write so.... don't expect it to be good fuck lol i didn't list names and genders because for now i'd like this to stay androgenous, if you have any input on which gender roles the characters should be playing, that advice would be very welcome as well...

this is some dialogue i wrote up for a scene between two characters of mine, a 17 year old about to start their last year of highschool, and a 22 year old that is an old close friend of the 17 yr olds older sibling. the setting is that they're outside on the street corner talking after the 22 yr old and the older sister found the 17 yr old drinking at a party. the older sibling has allready had a round of shouting at the 17 yr old and has walked away too cool off on the advice of the 22 yr old. the 22yr old sits on the curb and the 17 yr old sits next to them, while a moment of silence happens before the dialogue occurs.




*to break the awkward silence*
17:"what do you wanna do when you grow up?"

22:"what the kind of question is that?"

17: " no really i wanna know~!"

22:"make enough money to keep a family secure safe and happy, and still be able to have some time to share with them and enjoy the better things of life"

17:"well what kind of career is that?"

22: "well i've found out it's definately not fast food"

17:"so you wouldn't work there?"

22: " oh i have, and i would again definitely if i needed to, or just part time for extra money"

17: "so you're just going to go join the workforce?"

22: "where the hell did you get that term, 'the work force', your high school counselor?"

17: "yea...... so you just went and got a job?"

22:" pretty much.... i needed the money for what i needed to do."

17: "so you think you'll just work forever?"

22: "well yea....but you know there's this thing called college, and some people don't take it seriously, but mostly people take it too seriously. and for some fucking reason sitting in a class writing some papers and reading some books seems to get you a job that puts a couple extra zero's on your check."

17:" i don't think college is really that simple."

22:"life is only as complicated as you make it. you just need to know what makes things easier for you to do shit."

17:" you mean like slacking and procrastinating?"

22:"no dip shit, didn't you hear me? i said make shit easier, not lazy and retarded. life is full of conflict, and avoiding it means your avoiding life itself. but when it comes down to it, your character isn't built on how much crap you've been through, it's how you handled the problems . that's what gets you some where in the end."

17: "where do you think you'll be in the end?"

22: "*heavy sigh*uh..... burnt and my ashes scattered..."

17:"so you don't believe in heaven?"

22. " god, do you ask alot of fucking questions! i didn't say anything about that. for me i think heaven is in those moments in life we're you feel the most achieved."

17: "so, to you, there's no afterlife?"

22:"hell if i know, i'm not in charge, i'd just rather enjoy my life while i got it and do something right with it while i can, whose to fucking say there is or isn't even? i feel that everyone has faith in something and that their faith works best for them, my faith is that i'll keep going through shit until the day i die... and maybe longer...... but you know if i can be proud of what i fucking did along the fucking way, alot more than the shit to be ashamed of, then that's more than i could ever ask for."

17:"you sure do cuss alot"

22:"it's because you got me all sentimental, you jackass"

17: "so you're not gonna ream me about drinking?"

22: "i'm not your mother"

17: "so you're okay with it?"

22: "it's doesn't matter how i feel about it, all that matters is how you feel about it. you're the one who lives with your feelings and it doesn't matter how anyone feels if it doesn't affect you."

17: "what do you mean?"

22: "uhhh....... it's like those high profile murderers yknow? every day on the news and shit they hear about how bad what they do is and how much it hurts other people, and even their families sometimes, but it, like.... doesn't phase them. even though there's a billion people out there in the world who all hate what they do, they keep doing it anyway, no matter how wrong or right it is..."

17: "what do you mean right? you think what they do is right?!"

22: "of course i don't you dumb ass! it's just that the same goes for the other way around you know. look at matin luther king junior, and nelson mandela, millions of people thought they where wrong two, hell mandela spent all that fucking time in jail. but when it came down to it, none of it mattered except for what he felt about it. human will power is a hell of a force sometimes..."

17: " i don't think anyone like us will ever make a difference like that"

22: "and who says you need to? there's plenty of ways to make a difference in everyone's life in all different sizes. like i said all ready. it's not the shit you've been through, it's how you dealt with the problems."

*a moment of silence*
